11 Unique Boudoir Photo Ideas to Personalize Your Session
One of my favorite things about boudoir is just how creative and playful we can be in the studio to make each session entirely unique and customized. If you’re thinking about having boudoir photos taken but you aren’t sure how to make the session feel more personalized, here are some of my favorite unique boudoir session ideas:
Have Some Food + Drinks
There’s just something a little sexy and playful about portraits with small fruits like grapes and strawberries! Or opt for a more “cozy” intimate vibe with a cup of warm tea or coffee in your boudoir attire, with a blanket or a loose bed sheet.
Get Your Hair + Makeup Done
Even if you already know how to pull off some alluring makeup and hair styles, you can make the session feel extra special by having someone else pamper you for the day.
One benefit of working with me is that professional hair and makeup is included in my boudoir photography packages. I truly love working with the Kim J Beauty team here in Colorado. They’re so fun to work with and always leave my clients feeling their best! The best part? The team meets us at my studio which means there’s one less thing you have to worry about (like driving to a salon before we begin).
Play with Fun Accessories
Adding a few accessories is probably one of the easiest ways to personalize your boudoir session! Some bling like earrings or long plunge necklaces can make for great “statement” standalone pieces, or opt for some sexy bodysuits and lingerie.
Long fancy robes can instantly make you feel more luxurious. If you’re engaged, you could even add a little flair with your wedding veil! I’ve even got a full list of boudoir outfit ideas here to spark your imagination.
Bring Some Props
To make your session truly unlike anyone else’s, you can add in a prop or two that has something to do with your career or hobbies. Think: a musical instrument, a cozy blanket, your favorite vintage book set, an antique handheld mirror, an old polaroid camera, some bold lipstick, paintbrushes, etc.
Wear a Jersey
Get a little sporty with it! Show off your favorite sports team (or your partner’s favorite team!) with a sports jersey or team jacket.
Get a Bit Naughty
Want to be a bit more suggestive and moody with a few photos? Items like handcuffs, fishnet stockings, or some rope can take your boudoir session to the next level!
Wear Some Unique Shoes
Have a sexy pair of stilettos or tall leather boots you love? Bring ‘em! Or you can even play with a more casual or sporty look in a pair of Converse and a long button up shirt.
Show Off Your Tattoos
If you have some unique tattoos, boudoir sessions are a great way to feature them in an artistic and sexy way, especially for tattoos on your hips, back, arms or shoulders. It might also be helpful to shop for lingerie or other attire that show off or complement your tattoos well!
Add Flowers or Greenery
Although my boudoir studio is indoors, we can always play with a bit of nature! Consider adding some florals for us to play with among some bed sheets, or using some greenery to selectively hide a few body parts in a seductive and playful way.
Dress for the Season or Holiday
Another fun idea to try is to select boudoir outfits or bring props for a specific season or holiday! If you’re getting photos done during the fall or winter, you could try some fun “warm + cozy” looks with a loose blanket or other winter holiday looks. Valentine’s is always a great time to play around with some bolder reds or deep pinks. And more floral or neutral tones always work well for spring and summer.
Vintage or Retro Themes
Go for a vintage or retro look with your attire, props, and makeup. Think old Hollywood glamour, pin-up style, or even a 1920s flapper vibe for a nostalgic and timeless feel. And old vintage leather jackets are always a bit edgy for a moodier vibe!
